Harvest at the food bank…

22nd August 2023

Before we know it, the leaves will be changing colour and the frosty mornings will be upon us. Harvest arrives a little earlier this year, with most Harvest festivals taking place on or around October 1st.

Harvest is a big time for the food bank, as all donations that arrive during this period are to keep us going before we head into the Winter. Emergency parcel numbers are set to rise in the colder months, so Harvest donations really do make a huge impact on our organisation.

If you’d like to get involved this Harvest, here’s some information about our fun initiative…

  • Harvest Challenge: Our seasonal challenges really are a hoot each year, with schools, businesses and even families getting involved with the fun. This year, our 31 Days Of Harvest challenge encourages individuals to donate 1 item per day for 31 days. It’s not limited to this, as in the past we’ve had classes in schools donating one item per child, or businesses taking a part in a ‘names in a hat’ style draw where the individual brings in the item they have drawn out of a mystery bag. It’s all good fun and all donations are added straight into emergency parcels for individuals across Barnsley. If you’d like to get involved, you can download a sheet here-  31 Days of Harvest

Donations can be brought to our warehouse at Unit 14 Aldham Industrial Estate, Wombwell, Barnsley, S73 8HA. We are open Monday to Friday and can accept donation drop-offs between 9:30am-2:30pm. We have limited pick-up slots available for schools/businesses, please get in touch via [email protected] as soon as possible to secure your slot. Unfortunately due to driver shortages, this is first come, first served.
