Foodbank Figures Highlighted

31st May 2023

Since the global pandemic, we saw a big change in the pattern when it came to giving out vital food parcels. The demand for emergency help from those in crisis across Barnsley sky-rocketed, with our food bank working around the clock to ensure we could provide the much-needed support.

It is hard to believe that the pandemic began just over 3 years ago, because as we head into mid-2023, the figures just continue to rise.

  • Between March 2022 and March 2023, Barnsley Foodbank Partnership provided 11,429 individuals with an emergency food parcel- 4,021 of these individuals were children.
  • Between March 2020 and March 2023, over 24,876 individuals received emergency food parcels. This equates to roughly 547,392 meals.

The Trussell Trust have also recently revealed some of their figures, which really highlight the impact of not only the Covid-19 pandemic, but the Cost of Living Crisis.

Between April 2022 and March 2023 food banks in the Trussell Trust’s UK-wide network distributed almost 3 million emergency food parcels. More than 1 million of these were distributed to children.

Yorkshire & the Humber Trussell Trust food banks have, like many other food banks, seen their busiest period since their launch day. In the year 2017/18, 79,502 individuals received emergency food parcels- a huge difference to the year 2022/23 which saw a staggering 200,562 individuals receiving emergency food support.

Our food parcels are made possible thanks to the amazing donations we receive. If you would like to support our food bank, click here to find out how.
