January 2023 Update

11th January 2023

We have been a little quiet over the festive period, but we have been incredibly busy. The food bank has seen what is possibly our busiest Christmas yet, with hundreds of parcels going out and hundreds of donations coming in!

At the beginning of December, the Tesco Christmas Collection took place. The volunteering team and Community Champions worked incredibly hard across Tesco Stairfoot, Hoyland and Penistone to make it a collection to never forget. As a result of this hard work and the kindness of the public, we were able to collect the equivalent of 12,832 meals!

Throughout December, we were incredibly overwhelmed. The heartwarming generosity of individuals was just beyond words. Schools, businesses, community groups, families and more were dropping off donations at our food bank- at least two per day! We were collecting significantly more in our Tesco donation boxes too and our trusted van was also able to pick up some of the larger donations. We also received kind donations on our JustGiving page. A huge thank you goes out to every single person that has supported us, we simply couldn’t operate and provide this emergency support without you.

Looking into 2023, we already have some plans. In April, the Biker Easter Egg Collection will return! It was such a spectacle last year and we know how much work the biker groups put into this, we’re grateful to have this opportunity once again this year. The groups also did a collection for Christmas, which was a great success!

This year also marks 10 years since our food bank first opened. Keep an eye out on our website and social media for updates on this.
