A Successful Summer Collection

Our team are still buzzing with excitement after the Tesco Summer Collection a few weeks ago! From 30th June – 2nd July, the local Tesco stores were a hive of activity during the annual collection.

Barnsley Foodbank Partnership work alongside Tesco Stairfoot, Hoyland and Penistone to host the fantastic collection, alongside their Community Champions, twice a year. 6 days out of the year are dedicated to raising awareness and donations for the food bank, split down between the Summer and Winter collections.

The weights collected from each Tesco are transformed into ‘meal counts’ or ‘meal equivalents’- giving a real idea of how much has been donated and how much will be going out into emergency food parcels for individuals in crisis. Here are the figures:

Tesco Stairfoot: 4,857 meals

Tesco Penistone: 4,033 meals

Tesco Hoyland: 2,285 meals

We just want to say a huge thank you to the volunteers that helped us during the collection. These dedicated individuals travelled from far and wide to help out during our collection, some of them even donating more than 1 day of their own time! Also, a big thanks to our Community Champions for their hard work and to our brilliant volunteer drivers for collecting the donations.

Finally, a special thank you to everyone who donated. Your kindness, generosity and warm hearts did not go unnoticed- we are so grateful for your donations.
