A fantastically festive Tesco Collection

6th December 2021

Barnsley Foodbank Partnership got into the festive season last month when the Tesco Christmas Collection took place.

We had volunteers representing the food bank across Tesco Hoyland, Tesco Stairfoot and Tesco Penistone, with the Community Champions bringing their festive spirit along too. We were so overwhelmed by the kindness of the customers, with trolley full after trolley full rolling by every few hours! We collected many of our most needed items, with all of the donations going towards our emergency parcels.

Volunteers travelled from far and wide to donate their time in the collection. Handing out leaflets, encouraging donations and being a big smiling face at the front of store was on the cards, with some even staying for a full day to help out.

Lisa, Tesco Stairfoot’s Community Champion said,

“People are incredibly kind, they keep coming over with baskets full of food donations!”

Georgina, Barnsley Foodbank Partnership’s Admin & Client Support got Tesco Penistone’s first day underway. She said,

“Within the first hour, the donation trolley was already getting full. It’s been a tricky few years, so it’s incredibly humbling to see all of the kind donations people are giving to us. It’s great to see the volunteers back too, with Covid-19 putting a stop to it for last year’s collection. We’re so grateful for everyone’s hard work and kindness, it really wouldn’t have gone ahead without our wonderful Community Champions and volunteers working together.”

This year, over 4 tonnes of donations were collected throughout the event. This is the equivalent of 9,595 meals!

On behalf of all of us at Barnsley Foodbank Partnership…thank you.
