Hope House Café Visit

8th June 2021

Now that some Covid-19 restrictions are beginning to lift, we are able to start visiting our wonderful spokes. Our spokes are such a vital part of how our foodbank works, ensuring our food parcels get given out to the individuals efficiently and often offering signposting to those that need it.

We visited Hope House Café this week, which opens twice a week for our food parcel handouts. We sat down with some of the volunteers and individuals who had come to pick up a food parcel to get some feedback.

Bob, a regular volunteer at Hope House Café, said:

“I’ve been volunteering here for around 2 years now. I love interacting with people and seeing the positive impact that the foodbank has on people.”

An individual wanted to share their story with us, said it was their first time at the food bank.

“It’s the first time I’ve visited a food bank. I had my debit card stolen by someone who I trusted and was left with no food. Getting a food parcel from the food bank has really helped me until my next payment. I felt very welcome when I came into Hope House Café and was signposted to a charity for further help.”

Another individual wanted to share their story and was successfully signposted whilst we were there.

“The food bank has been a life saver for me. I know that some people take advantage of food banks but they really help people in need of food. The volunteers are brilliant and I always feel welcome. My plan is to utilise my skills once I have saved up some money. I want to get back into helping young people as I have the relevant qualifications for this and the help I’ve had from the food bank is really making my dreams a reality.”
